Ambassador's Biography


Ambassador Levent Murat Burhan was born in 1959 in Merzifon-Amasya, Turkey. He graduated from the Department of International Relations of Ankara University, Faculty of Political Science in 1981.

 Ambassador Burhan entered the Foreign Service in 1982. He served in Turkish Embassies in Mogadishu, Sofia and Moscow, the Turkish Consulate General in Munich and the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Turkey to the United Nations in New York. He was Deputy Chief of Cabinet at the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey between 1991-1993. Ambassador Burhan has worked as the Head of Department of the Balkans and Deputy Director General for Eastern Europe at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA).

 He was promoted to the rank of Ambassador in 2009 and served as the Turkish Ambassador in Tbilisi, Georgia until 2013.

 Between 2013-2014 he held the position of Director General of Protocol, Ambassador, MFA and between 2014-2016 he served as Ambassador, Deputy Undersecretary for General Political Affairs, MFA.

 He has been serving as the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Ireland as of November 15th 2016.

 Ambassador Burhan is single and is the father of one daughter. He speaks English, Italian, French, Spanish and German.
